About players and data
Last updated October 7, 2026
Where we get our information about athletes, why they become goat characters, and what to do if a player doesn’t want to be here.
1. Where our data comes from
We take facts about players from open databases and encyclopedias. Thanks to everyone who writes them.
how well known a player is (we set the difficulty by it)
career tables of hockey players
Counter-Strike 2 players and teams
League of Legends players and teams
We have taken and adapted data from Wikipedia, Liquipedia and Leaguepedia (selected, shortened, translated). The authors are the contributors to those projects. If we ever publish a derived dataset from them, it will be under the same CC BY-SA licence.
2. What we use about players
Only public facts about their sporting career: name, sport, position or role, clubs and teams, nationality, birth year, statistics and achievements. For the character’s look, also gender and hair and eye colour from Wikidata.
We don’t use photos, private life, health or family.
3. Players as goat characters
Every player appears in the game as a drawn goat character. It’s our own drawing from the GOAT builder, not a photo, not a likeness and not an AI-generated image. A character may have a few features that suit the player (hairstyle, beard, fur colour) so that he can be guessed. We never draw tattoos, logos, shirt numbers or sponsors.
A character does not mean that the player supports the game or works with us. Players, their clubs and leagues have nothing to do with GoatGuess. We don’t sell player characters or use them in advertising.
4. How the characters are made
- From the public facts above, the Claude model by Anthropic suggests a look in fixed categories (e.g. “short dark hair, beard”). It gets text only, no photos.
- When the model isn’t sure, we leave the feature out and the character stays at the default.
- We take gender only from Wikidata and never guess it.
- A human checks every character before it’s published.
- No data about GoatGuess users is sent anywhere in the process. See the privacy policy.
5. Are you a player? Ask to be removed
If you are a player who appears in the game, or their representative (agent, club, parent), and you don’t want to be here, write to takedown@goatguess.com. Include:
- the player’s name and sport,
- what you want: just a neutral character without the player’s features, or complete removal from all games and cards,
- for a representative, briefly whom you represent and why.
We reply within 72 hours. We switch the character to a neutral one as soon as the request is verified. If you want complete removal, we also remove the player from quizzes, cards and clues. We keep only a short record (who, when, what) so we don’t add the player again by mistake.
Under the law (Art. 21 GDPR) you also have the right to object to the processing of data about you. We treat a request sent to takedown@goatguess.com as an objection too.
6. Mistake in the data?
Report a wrong club, year or position via Report a bug / idea at the bottom of the page or at gusta@goatguess.com. We’ll fix it.
7. Games and trademarks
